A student team from the University of Bridgeport School of Engineering won second prize at the Fall 2013 Connecticut Business Plan Competition, which took place Dec. 6 at Gateway Community College in New Haven. Sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Foundation, the contest included twelve student teams from colleges and universities throughout Connecticut, both in undergraduate business programs and postgraduate MBA programs. The team from University of Bridgeport, headed by Bridgeport resident Mohana Alfarasani, won $500 for best business plan for their "Sign Language App". The team is in the process of developing a mobile phone application that translates American Sign Language signals into text messages to assist hearing impaired people in communicating with people who do not understand ASL. Other winners included first place team "NoShowFix," headed by Suzanne Lagarde, from Yale University; "MusicVault," a student team from Quinnipiac University, led by Nicholas Hakim, that won "Best Online Executive Summary" award for best written business plan submitted online; and "KolWorks," a student team from Housatonic Community College headed by Shelton resident Glenn Bader, garnering a "in kind" award.
