UB Graduation Celebrates Diversity

“ ….. Sana Sarr, 29, who graduated with a master's degree in business administration(MBA), said he would miss UB and planned to return to his native Gambia, West Africa.

"One of the great things about UB is the diversity. You have people from all over the world mixing," Sarr said. "I think that stays with you for the rest of your life, and people all over the world. You learn different things from different people……”

“…… Neil Albert Salonen, UB's president, said students at UB hail from 78 countries. "We are, by any measure, one of the most international and diverse institutions in the world," Salonen said. "In a very real sense, everyone is in the minority at UB. Therefore, everyone is equal, and everyone is welcome."

"We learn to judge each other by our character and our accomplishments, not by our backgrounds and our accents," Salonen said…..”

“….. Bridgeport Mayor John M. Fabrizi, a 1991 UB graduate, said graduates had persevered over the last several years and needed to take that perseverance with them into "a highly competitive world of jobs and a lot of opportunity."

During the invocation, the Rev. Jorge M. Randle, UB's Catholic chaplain, asked God to bless graduates' parents, teachers and friends and to watch over UB's Class of 2006.

"Watch over them, protect them and walk softly by their side," Randle said…..”
